
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th in 2000) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spans over 40 years. London was a torch performer who was known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz classics from 1955 until 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed in her debut album. In addition to the music-related recognition, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress when she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35-year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included parts in the lead female in several westerns. In the mid-50s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However she was part of the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) where she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
